New study has concluded that a non-cannabinoid, nonpsychoactive cannabis flavonoid, FBL-03G may treat pancreatic cancer

This study was conducted by researchers working for Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School. Animal models were used to assess impact of FBL-03G – a flavonoid derived from Cannabis sativa – on the progression of tumors. Therapeutic efficacy in both local and metastatic tumor progression was shown with pancreatic cancer.

Since the current survival rate for pancreatic cancer is an average of five years, with current treatments using chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy, and surgery. Unfortunately, to date all the above listed have limited success because of pancreatic cancer’s aggressive nature.

Flavonoids give the cannabis plant its color and attracts pollinators. The cannaflavins also work with terpens to give the plant its’ taste and aroma, and protect the plant from environmental dangers such as pests.

The study, published in Frontiers in Oncology, did repeated experiments that showed significant survival rate increases in the animal studies.
